By Antony October 10, 2006 - 11:25 PMThe Desperate Housewives PC game has been released, and its makers are open that this is an attempt to get women to an area that is typically dominated by men and male-orientated games.
"We got feedback that said, 'My husband plays Halo all night, but this is my game,'" Barbara Gleason, senior brand manager for Buena Vista Games, told Inside Bay Area. Ismini Roby, co-founder of the Web site WomenGamers.com, agreed that it was opening avenues for women game players. "Even the women that already play games have this sense of what we call gamer shame. They don't perceive that other women play or are into games. Now they'll have something that a lot of women are admittedly into."
In the game, the player takes the role of a new housewife on Wisteria Lane that interacts with the show's regular characters. The plot is driven around a mystery, but the article noted that game players would often be drawn into the opportunity to seduce or slap characters in true Housewives style.
Screenshots from the game can be seen at GameSpot.
The game is available to order from Amazon.com and comes with an unusually low price of under $20. Buena Vista hopes that the game will be an impulse purchase for both women and for men buying for their wives. Discuss this news item at Talk Desperate!
