Ricardo Antonio Chavira (Carlos Solis) has revealed that following the death of his mother he became depressed, leading him to almost destroy his life with drugs and crime.
In a frank interview, Chavira told Inside TV that the death of his mother from breast cancer when he was 16 set him on a destructive path. "Alcohol and drug abuse, some gang-related stuff; I delved into some very interesting territory for a while," Chavira said. He was then dealt another cruel blow not long after. "A year and a half after my mother died, my best friend died in a car accident. He was drunk and wrapped his car around a traffic light pole."
Chavira admitted things only got worse. He became so depressed that he passed up college scholarships and instead became increasingly violent. "I got arrested a few times for assault and battery because of bar fights," he said. "I would have these huge surges of anger; I once did $900 worth of damage to my car with my bare hands."
However, after a few years Chavira turned his life around. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, headed to LA and looked for work as an actor. His depression was still a problem, but a psychological retreat with his father helped him overcome it. And now, he explained, he has a new reason to live. "The birth of my son completely changed me for the better," he said. "He made me realize I wasn't the most important thing out there. I still sometimes get angry, but it's different now that I'm a parent. I've learned it's just wasted energy."
