By Antony July 10, 2005 - 7:47 PMHello World! I can thankfully say that my friends and I were all okay after the attacks on London last week. However with friends who live and work there, and I visit London often, this terrorist attack definitely felt "personal".
I feel attacks like this bring out the best and worst in people. On the goodside there's been the tremendous strength of Londoners getting on with their lives, and the amazing performance of the emergency services. Tony Blair and Ken Livingston were exceptional after the attacks, Ken Livingston in particular delivering a very heartfelt speech. On the other side we have the likes of George Galloway and the BBC who want to start issuing blame before the dust has even settled, which I have no time for, and who think the world is created with a simple rule book that the UK just isn't following.
Some of the biggest emotional reaction has been from beyond the UK borders, while the UK itself has refrained from waves of over the top grief. I don't think that means the UK is uncompassionate. I just think we're just more sober to such things, and rather than dwelling on the events we're already starting to stand up and go forward.
And trying to look on the bright side of things: we still beat the French to get the 2012 Olympics! Talk Desperate! threads Join in the discussions with other fans at Talk Desperate! Poll Results Below are the results of the most recent Get Desperate! poll:
