James Denton (Mike Delfino) doesn't understand why he is suddenly popular. But those that know him have given their thoughts on his popularity.
Denton said he finds it confusing that he is suddenly considered attractive. "They didn't think Kilmer was attractive," he told Tennessean.com, referring to his previous lead-role in the short-lived Threat Matrix. "They wanted to know what I did different. For Housewives, I don't shave. That's the sole difference. They think, 'Hey, he's hot enough for Teri Hatcher? He must be good looking.'"
But Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry disagrees. "Women respond to the character of Mike," he said, "because they perceive Jamie's real character, his nice, fun, masculine character. What is not to love?" Regarding the casting of Denton, Cherry added: "The first thing I remember is, we were all holding our breath that he and Teri [Hatcher] would have chemistry. Not only do they click, but it's the stuff that TV legends are made of."
Denton's sister Cindy Doak recalled that he was popular even as a child. "As a kid, everybody liked him," she said. "All the teachers liked him because he made good grades, the girls liked him because he was good-looking, the guys liked him because he was friends with everybody, not just the athletes."
And Denton's wife Erin O'Brien doesn't disagree. "I think he's incredibly handsome and sexy, and if he didn't work so hard at our relationship, maybe I'd be insecure. But I'm not insecure, so it's fine. I think it's great for him. I think so many people in Hollywood make it and they're not very nice people. Finally, one of the good guys wins."
