ABC saw yet another rise in viewer numbers for Desperate Housewives as the latest episode passed the 26m mark.
According to figures released by MediaWeek, "Sunday in the Park With George" scored a 17.4 rating with a 25 share. These figures mean that of all households in the United States with television sets, 17.4% were tuned into DH, as well as 25% of those households actually watching television on Sunday at 9:00pm. The show pulled a 11.4/27 rating in the coveted 18–49 demographic.
This is one of the show's strongest performances, and only the second time it's passed the 26m marker. This places it as the second most watched episode to date behind November 2004's "Guilty", which had a high level of interest due to a character being killed off.
These figures also reflect growing ratings since ABC aired its Desperate Housewives special two weeks ago as a way to bring new viewers up to speed. Last week's episode, at 25.9m viewers, was the highest since "Guilty"—and now the ratings have gone up again.
Desperate Housewives saw off respectable competition from CBS which aired part one of its mini series Elvis to 13.9m viewers and NBC's Law & Order: Criminal Intent on 11.2m.
ABC's lead was cut a bit, but it was still easily the winner for the night. It beat nearest competitor CBS in the overnights by 19% and by 3.71m viewers in total. It beat Fox in the 18–49 by 103%.
