Principle photography has begun on Consequences, a telemovie starring Andrew Bowen (Julie Mayer) as a girl who fears she's infected with HIV.
The Lifetime Original Movie, which will air on the US cable network Lifetime in June 2007, is being created in partnership with organizations such as Advocates for Youth in the hope that the movie will raise awareness of HIV and AIDS and encourage testing. "Andrea Bowen is a great young talent who possess the perfect blend of innocence and vulnerability as a teen struggling with this devastating news," said Libby Beers, Vice President, Original Movies, Lifetime Television. "With AIDS as one of the leading causes of death for Americans between the ages of 25 to 44 today, it's also disturbing to learn that half of all new HIV infections are among young people age 25 and under as reported by Advocates for Youth."
In the movie, Bowen's character is shocked when a boy she had unprotected sex with dies, and rumors start to spread that it was because he was HIV-positive. She gains an ally in the form of a teacher who has secretly lived with the disease for years, and she urges Bowen's character to be tested and together they deal with the stigma that arises from having the disease.
The movie also stars Jennie Garth who is probably best known for her role as Kelly Taylor on Beverly Hills 90210, as the HIV-positive teacher. It is directed by Peter Werner who also directed Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy.
