Old Europe isn't so different from the United States after all: following the German premiere of Desperate Housewives, much of the local media's attention for the show is currently focusing on the impressive pecs of star Jesse Metcalfe (John Rowland).
"I work out five times a week," Metcalfe told the German teen magazine Bravo, during an interview that was translated into German, and we're now translating back into English. The article, which was made available online by fan site JesseMetcalfe.net, featured several shots of Metcalfe and Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis), including a large one of John without his shirt. Metcalfe explained this was the reason for his grueling fitness schedule: "Half the world gets to watch me [this way]!"
Metcalfe added that while it can be fun to be a sex symbol, he'd "also like to be taken seriously as an actor." But as Bravo noted, he's instead received a lot of media attention for his romance with American Pie's Tara Reid. The actor gave a hint as to what Reid absolutely shouldn't be if she wants the relationship to last: over-possessive. "In front of the camera, I'm fooling around with girls all day long," he said. "I can't use a jealous girlfriend with that."
Besides Bravo, Metcalfe was also featured in Joy Celebrity, another German magazine. The article included biographical tidbits such as the fact that he enjoys golf, likes to play piano, and is an amateur sculptor -- to the presumed displeasure of his neighbors, as he prefers to get chiseling right smack in the middle of the night. But the article also contained a warning to Reid and any other girls who might get the hots for Metcalfe: "Right now, my career takes preference," he said.
The original interviews and accompanying photos can be found in issue 20 and 22 of the German Bravo Magazine, and the April 2005 issue of Joy. However, as both magazines will probably be hard to find on newsstands, scans are also available at JesseMetcalfe.net. Discuss this news item at Talk Desperate!
