Co-executive producer Kevin Murphy has promised fans that most questions will be answered, but with some new ones ready to take their place.
"I can say that the last couple of episodes will set up a new mystery that's going to happen next year," Murphy told North Jersey Media Group. "We're not going to mess with the audience. By the end of the season, we're going to answer most of the questions that we set up in the pilot, but there's some new questions that will [have] come up during the year that we won't be answering, so there'll be reason to come back."
Talking about writing for the show, Murphy said that Lynette is his favorite character. "I really love Lynette. She is one of my favorite characters to write for. I enjoy Felicity Huffman and Doug Savant's [Tom Scavo] chemistry so much that it's a pleasure to watch them."
And, like creator Marc Cherry, he also draws on those in his family when scripting scenes. In particular, when he writing scenes that involve Lynette, he is inspired by his wife and sister-in-law. "I look at my own wife, who owns a production company, and I look at her sister, who's got two kids, and ... she stays home and takes care of the kids and kind of gave up on a career. She really relates in a gigantic way to Lynette."
