By Antony November 8, 2005 - 9:54 PMTouchstone Television today revealed that Page Kennedy (Caleb), Betty Applewhite's prisoner in the basement, was fired from the show.
Although the specifics of the dismissal were unknown, Touchstone Television publicist Janet Daily said that he was let go after a "thorough investigation by the studio" reported CNN.com. A source told CNN that the misconduct did not involve another castmember.
Kennedy made his first appearance in episode three of season two, "You'll Never Get Away From Me." He then appeared again in "They Asked Me Why I Believe in You". The writers of Desperate Housewives have a few potential avenues to take with the actor's departure. If his character is still in the show at time of filming, they can re-cast the role, or they may choose to write the character out of the series if the storyline permits. Another possibility is that they will re-film current scenes in episodes that have been shot, but have not yet aired, with a new actor so that the change is less pronounced.
The actor took a risk in taking the Desperate Housewives role, revealing last month that he turned down a role on a WB series to take the role of Caleb. "Even if they killed me off, I think that the exposure I may get from this show might be bigger than if I lasted five years with Pepper Dennis," he said at the time.
