Lesley Ann Warren, who debuts this weekend in Desperate Housewives as Susan Mayer's mother Sophie, said she was scared at first that she was to play the mother of 40-year-old Teri Hatcher.

"I wanted to run screaming out of the room," 58-year-old Warren told USA Today, referring to her reaction when first approached about the role. To add to her worries, her on-screen boyfriend Morty is 17 years her senior and James Denton (Mike Delfino) enjoys taunting her. "I kid her that she's way too young to be playing Teri's mom," admitted Denton.

But Warren said she was able to come to terms with the role in the end. "It did require an adjustment in my thinking," she said. "But then I thought about Angelina Jolie playing Colin Farrell's mother [in Alexander], and she's only one year older than him."

Talking about her role, Warren promised Sophie would be like her daughter. "All hell breaks loose," Warren said. "We're not kidding," Hatcher added. "People are maimed, cars are damaged, buildings are destroyed." But off-screen, Warren and Hatcher have found they have a lot in common too. "It's almost scary how much we are the same person," said Hatcher.
