Marc Cherry People Guide,
Felicity Huffman People Guide With massive hype and attention in season one, can Desperate Housewives keep going in season two, or will it fade from attention? The latter option is a concern that is on creator Marc Cherry's mind, but some of the cast have said they don't think it'll happen.
Two words: Twin Peaks," Cherry told Star-Telegram. Twin Peaks ran in the 1990s, and like Desperate Housewives received critical acclaim and was driven by a mystery. However the mystery was solved, and it ended after just two seasons. But Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo), who herself suffered the two-season-only problem with ABC's Sports Night, doesn't believe it'll happen to Desperate Housewives.
"Of course, the whole Twin Peaks curse is silly," Huffman said. "You never know if you're going to have [a bad day] or whether there will be so many in a row that you're suddenly off the air. That said, I don't see it happening with this show, because it's so well written and the characters are so interesting." Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis) also quashed the worries over a second season failure. "Marc is brilliant," she said. "Brilliant people don't operate like you and me, so they aren't [prone] to the usual pitfalls."
But Cherry remains cautious. He said that season will have to be deeper, smarter and "more elegant." He added that they haven't got the advantage being a new show either. "It's not like we'll be sneaking up on anybody."
Meanwhile, Monsters and Critics reported Longoria said that she approves of Cherry's approach to not giving guest roles to big celebrities. "If we had Britney Spears playing a neighbour, the viewers would be like, 'That's Britney Spears playing a neighbour!' Marc really chooses the best actor for the job."
