In an appearance on The Tonight Show last month, Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer) recounted a trip to Portugal for a charity event where she met the King of Spain.
"That's the first king I've ever met," she told host Jay Leno. "When you arrive at the hotel for the event they have your sort of schedule, what you have to do and one of the things is an entire sheet of protocol about meeting royalty. And they're serious, you really have do that 'It's a pleasure to meet you', curtsey thing, or it's trouble."
Hatcher explained that she and her daughter practiced their greetings before the event, and the actual meeting went fine. "So we were racing with these America's Cup boat racers, that's when we meet him and went up to him and [said] 'It's a pleasure to meet you your majesty' and then right after that ... he's just the most regular, nice guy. He was like pulling my daughter's pigtails, and really being friendly, he said 'I'm a big fan of Desperate Housewives'. Leno then questioned if the king tried to hit on Hatcher. "He didn't really hit on me. I mean I'm too white trash."
She went on to talk about gambling, and how she doesn't tend to do it much. "It's kind of stressful, losing money. I used to do this thing, I mean I still do, [where] you have your change when you come home and you throw it in a bowl. So when that bowl fills up to a lot of change I'd take that change and maybe trade it in for $75. So when I was in Vegas I would sit at the slot machine, like a quarter slot machine, and I like this one slot machine called Top Dollar. And it's not stressful to go through $75 in quarters, it's just fun and you get a lot of free Vodka tonics, and you have a good time. So anyway, when you do this Top Dollar thing, if it hits it comes up on the little third wheel it says 'Top Dollar'. And the whole machine ... makes music and I dance."
After showing her dance to Leno, Hatcher continued: "Then it gives you these choices. It's like let's make a deal, it says here's your first offer, and it gives you ten dollars. Here's your second offer, and you have to decide. Do you want to be greedy? The ultimate thing is when you get Top Dollar it says to you 'you're a winner'. So I recorded it on my cellphone, I took a picture, and I have it so that whenever I'm depressed I just look at it and it goes 'you're a winner'."
