Online reviewers have weighed in on the return of the ABC's latest Desperate Housewives episode.

Here's what they had to say about "There Won't Be Trumpets", with more than one reviewer taking a dislike to Susan:

  • While Mickey O'Connor's review for EW.com was positive about Gabrielle and Bree's stories, but he wasn't too happy with Susan's or Lynette's:

What's up with the repairmen of Wisteria Lane? Not a beer gut or receding hairline among them. In a plot-rebuilding week, Susan (thankfully, pratfall-free), gets a letter from Mike, which she doesn't open, so busy is she sinking her claws into Bill, the new blue-collar fantasy man in the 'hood. She preens her whiskers for yet another Susan-Edie catfight (meow... yawn), but really, who cares?

You can read the rest of the review over at EW.com, where O'Connor said that Lynette's story caused his ears to go "numb about six minutes in".

  • Danny Spiegel writing for TV Guide Online said he still likes Gabrielle, even if her morales are questionable. "It's a true testament to Eva Longoria's likability that we still empathize with Gabrielle, who, if you're objective about it, is a selfish, egocentric bitch. First, she gets cranky with Carlos on the day he's burying his mother. Then she strongly encourages him to spend some time in prison, and finally she neglects to mention the big fat settlement from the hospital—and yet we still (mostly) love her." You can read the full review here, where Spiegel also commends the writing staff for their use of humor and quotes some of his favorite lines from the episode.
Some sites have also written recaps of the episode.
  • There is an extensive recap of the episode available at InsidePulse.com. In 'The Final Word', writer John Duran echoes comments from the EW.com review. "Gabrielle and Bree bring the workrate for the Housewives, but I just can't bring myself to care about Susan, and if they chose a Housewife to bump off at any time in the course of this show, I'd pick Susan to bite it first. Seriously, Susan is beginning to get so bad that I'll take Dead Woman Narrating over her."

  • There is also a brief summary at Television Without Pity, where visitors have so far rated the episode B+ in a poll. A more detailed recap is due to be posted at a later date.
