Even if she doesn't end up winning any more prizes, 2006 is already a banner year for Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo), as the actress this week managed to become the only person to get three nominations for the 2006 Screen Actors Guild awards.
Last year, Teri Hatcher walked away with the "Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series" award, but this year the Susan Mayer actress didn't even manage to get a nomination. Huffman is the only DH actress to get an individual nomination for her work on the show, meaning that she will have to compete against a varied roster of actresses including Candice Bergen (Boston Legal), Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), and Megan Mullally (Will & Grace).
The other DH actors will still have a chance for glory, as the full cast was again nominated for the "Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series" award, which Desperate Housewives already won last year. In this category, the show will have to compete against Arrested Development, Boston Legal, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Everybody Loves Raymond and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Huffman's final nomination came on the movie front, where she is vying for an award in the "Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role" category for her role as Bree in Transamerica. To win this award, she will have to beat Ziyi Zhang (Memoirs of a Geisha), Judi Dench (Mrs. Henderson Presents), Charlize Theron (North County), and Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line).
Whether Huffman is successful in winning this award, or any of the two others, will become known on the 29th of January, when SAG is holding its awards ceremony in the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles. For now, a full list of nominations can be found on the SAG web site. Discuss this news item at Talk Desperate!
