By Antony December 6, 2005 - 11:05 PMRoger Bart (George Williams) spoke recently about his departure from the show, and was pragmatic about the reason why his role had to come to an end.
Bart told About.com that he understood the need for shows like Desperate Housewives "to have colorful people coming in and out" over the course of a series. "I lasted around 13 episodes, like a year, so I think they kind of run their course and they provide what they need to provide because the show is after all called Desperate Housewives," he said. "They provide what they need to in order to have the women of the show have an experience, go through something and react off something crazy and they need to constantly bring in new blood, new dimension to the show.
Speaking before the most recent episode, Bart guessed (in retrospect, correctly) that the writers would acknowledge George's death with dialogue. "I just have a feeling that they'll say, 'What are you going to do with the body, Bree?'," he said. "I'm sure they'll have something referring to my death, I don't know what. Steven Culp, I think he didn't lie in the coffin as Rex. That was a mannequin. That was built."
The dialogue did indeed mention George's death in the most recent episode, something that was necessitated by a scene cut from the previous episode. "What we didn't see," he revealed, "was we had shot it and Marcia Cross actually put her finger on my pulse and waited until she realized there was no pulse and they cut that."
