Marc Cherry said in an interview recently that now he's past the hard part of getting Desperate Housewives on air the show could potentially run for a long time.
"You know, after we found out who shot JR, Dallas ran for another 12 years," he told The Sunday Morning Herald. "I don't know if it's a question of moving it forward, necessarily. It's just the nature of soap operas—new characters come in, we look at their lives and with those different actors, and their different sensibilities, different things get examined."
The hardest part was just getting the show on the air. It sat in his drawer for 18 months. "It was mine and it belonged to no one else," he said. "Of course, I wanted to give it life, to see it live and be enjoyed, to share it, but no one was interested. Then, when it launched, it was like a ball slowly rolling down a hill that picked up steam and got faster and faster and got out of control."
He also defended the second season, which has come under a lot of criticism. "I think we're doing better about pacing ourselves," he said. "But, that said, people got used to things moving at such a pace last year that when we tried to slow down a little this year, people felt everything was not moving as fast."
