Jesse Metcalfe's (John Rowland) feature film debut John Tucker Must Die was alive and well at the box office on its debut last weekend.
The movie took just under $14.3 million from Friday to Sunday, according to Box Office Mojo, coming in at third place behind mega-hit Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest on $20.6 million and newcomer Miami Vice on $25.7 million. However its per-site average was slightly higher than Pirates, meaning that while Pirates took more money it didn't perform as well as Tucker.
Yesterday Tucker slipped to sixth place in the face of the new competition, and had taken $24,923,000 cumulative—a figure already exceeding its $18 million production budget.
Meanwhile Metcalfe spoke to CourierPostOnline about how some of the cast, which included singer Ashanti and One Tree Hill's Sophia Bush, played pranks on him. "It wasn't only in the film that these girls were busting my chops," he said. "They gave me a hard time off screen too. I'd go into the hair and make-up trailer and they'd have it plastered with pictures of me defaced with moustaches and blackened-out teeth. It was all in good fun, though."
He also recounted the funniest thing a fan has said to him. "My favorite one was: 'I have a bush that needs trimming.' When you're in people's living rooms every week, they feel like they know you. And anything goes."
