By Christian January 5, 2006 - 8:41 PMSpeaking to the New York Post today, actor Nashan Kearse didn't sound like he was going to repeat any of the "improper conduct" that led to the firing of his predecessor Page Kennedy.
"It still hasn't sunk in yet," the new Caleb Applewhite actor told the paper. "It's still so new and I'm just trying to enjoy it. It's such a blessing to be on the show."
Kearse had originally auditioned for the Caleb role, but came in second to Kennedy. When Kennedy was dismissed from the show, Kearse received a last-minute call to join the show's cast. "I was actually about to leave to come back here until January, when I got the call," Kearse said. And it seems the actor wasted no time in agreeing to take on the part, which he'd been excited about since his very first audition -- and even more so when he learned the role would involve working closely together with Alfre Woodard (Betty Applewhite).
So far, Caleb hasn't gotten out much, but Kearse promised viewers will soon get to see some new sides of his character. "This Sunday you're actually going to see him talk," the actor said, referring to the episode "One More Kiss." But with new challenges may also come some extra hurting for Kearse, whose very first DH scene consisted of him being tackled by James Denton's (Mike Delfino). However, speaking to the Post, Denton revealed he was the one who ended up hurting the most.
"I was sore for about a week with that diving tackle of Nashawn - he's a big guy," Denton said. The actor then went on to tease the paper with a few details of his character's upcoming story arc. "I think people are a little tired of Mike and Susan chasing tails [and] we're going to get away from that. [...] Mike won't be so much of a romantic character ... he'll be establishing his relationship with [son] Zach. And a couple of characters from last season, from Mike's backstory, are coming back in the next couple of weeks."
