Thanks to Desperate Housewives once again attracting 24m viewers, and a thriving Grey's Anatomy, ABC trounced the competition on Sunday night.
According to figures released by MediaWeek, "There Won't Be Trumpets" scored a 16.7 rating with a 24 share. These figures mean that of all households in the United States with television sets, 16.7% were tuned into DH, as well as 24% of those households actually watching television on Sunday at 9:00pm. The show also held steady in the coveted 18–49 demographic pulling in a 10.7/25.
After a decent premiere last week, lead-out show Grey's Anatomy increased in the ratings. It picked up an extra 1.98m viewers since last week, taking its total to 18.23m. It takes total viewer retention to 76% of the Desperate Housewives audience and once again easily beats previous timeslot occupant Boston Legal. The show also received a 10% rise in the 18–49 demographic. Grey's Anatomy will continue to be the Desperate Housewives lead-out show for several weeks.
Thanks to the consistency of Desperate Housewives and a surging Grey's Anatomy, ABC easily managed to beat other networks in total viewers and the 18–49 category. All in all, ABC is up 56% on last year. The other networks meanwhile are crumbling on Sunday night, with remarkably only a 11% drop for NBC being the best any of the other networks could muster.
