Teri Hatcher People Guide,
Marcia Cross People Guide The Television Critics Association yesterday unveiled its 2005 TCA Award nominations, with ABC and Desperate Housewives picking up most nominations in their fields—eleven and five respectively.
For program of the year, Desperate Housewives is up against Fox's Arrested Development, Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, HBO's Deadwood and another ABC hit show Lost. In the outstanding achievement in comedy category it is once again up against Arrested Development and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, as well as other nominees CBS's Everybody Loves Raymond and The WB's Gilmore Girls. And for outstanding new program of the year, which naturally it will only have one chance to win, Desperate Housewives is up against Fox's House, FX's Rescue Me, UPN's Veronica Mars and once again ABC sibling Lost.
For the individual achievement in comedy, it's once again the actresses of Desperate Housewives that are picking up the nominations. Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer) will be up against Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp). They will have to contend with Jason Batemen from Arrested Development, Ray Romano from Everybody Loves Raymond and Jon Stewart from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Hatcher did well recently, picking up a Screen Actors Guild award and beating Cross to a Golden Globe. However they both lost out when it came to the Golden Satellite awards, with the best actress nod going to Portia de Rossi from Arrested Development. And while she isn't nominated for the TCA Awards, it was her co-star Bateman who won the best actor at the Golden Satellite awards—so Desperate Housewives could be in for some tough competition in this category.
Desperate Housewives doesn't feature in the drama categories, but Lost is up for outstanding achievement in drama with start Matthew Fox nominated for individual achievement in drama. ABC's Night line is also up for two awards.
The winners will be announced in a ceremony set to take place on July 23 2005.
