Lifetime has announced that it plans to create a TV series based upon Burnt Toast, the book by Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer).

The book's adaptation is part of a raft of projects announced by the US women's TV network, reported Mediaweek. The main focus of the book is that women need to increase their confidence and to treat themselves better. Its name is a metaphor for how women are happy to give the good toast to others and eat the burnt toast for themselves.

"I think a lot of women carry around a lot of guilt and pain and believe that everything is their fault," Hatcher said in an earlier interview [story]. "I spent a long time feeling that way and I still live with that guilt. My idea is writing my book is to show that guilt and punishing themselves psychologically. We can learn how to feel good about ourselves and have the kind of life we want. I try to use a lot of my own experiences about how I've made mistakes and how I've fought those negative feelings."

The network has a programming budget that's over 30% higher than last year,and other new productions include Chamber Maid, "a drama/comedy hybrid about a federal law clerk" and Lovely and Talented, "which chronicles the life of a woman who establishes an adult-education class for aspiring actresses". It also announced a number of series that would go head-to-head with Housewives in the Sunday 9pm slot.
