By Antony May 3, 2006 - 12:17 PMTom Spezialy, executive producer and showrunner of Desperate Housewives alongside Marc Cherry, allegedly walked out on the show last week.
According to a report at Reuters, Spezialy walked out last Friday after an "unspecified falling out". A spokesperson for Touchstone TV, producer of Housewives, said that things calmed down over the weekend and Spezialy was due to return to work on Monday. The show has been under almost constant criticsm for a drop in writing quality this season, but the spokesperson denied that there would be a shake-up in the writing team.
An article at New York Post also reported on the disagreement, and carried additional quotes from the spokesperson. "It's not unusual for all of our shows to make changes between seasons," she said. "I don't know what Tom's decision will be."
If Spezialy does quit, it won't be the first change in the show's team. Executive producer Michael Edelstein quit last year as he said he wanted to launch another new show (story) and that he was an "adrenaline junkie".
Spezialy has also written a number of episodes for Housewives, and previously he co-executive produced and wrote for That Was Then and Ed.
