With season three starting on Australian TV station Network Ten shortly, Andrea Bowen (Julie Mayer) discussed how he character has moved to being a more typical young woman.
"It's different to how people have seen Julie," she told AAP. "[Julie] changes around from being mother-like to daughter-like. She has always been stressed about making the right decisions And when Susan does try to interfere and tell her she is unable to do something it kind of backfires, because she is so used to being on the other side. It's really switched around this year."
Housewives ratings in Australia followed a similar pattern to those in the US—they showed quite a lot of erosion in season two (2.13 million down to 1.67 million in Australia) but still remained a massive hit, in Australia's case still the most successful import TV show. But Bowen promised the show gets better in season three. "This season is a lot more cohesive and character based," she said. "I think it's been accepted that the last series went a bit off track but this year it gets put right."
Bowen said that her life is different to Julie, but her personality is similar. "There is a lot of me in her," she said. "My family life and home life is so completely different to Julie's. "I am the youngest of six kids and my parents have been married for several years. Julie is an only child with a single mother so it's very different. But personality-wise we are similar."
