As New Orleans citizens try to recover from floods that have devastated their city, Desperate Housewives actor Mike Delfino (James Denton) has highlighted their plight.
"We saw the aerial photos this morning and that's when it really hit home, the devastation," Denton said before hosting the WMA awards yesterday, reported RedNova News. "I think there's a bit of denial. At some point you can just turn the TV off [but] they have to wake up with it every morning."
Denton meanwhile told Access Hollywood (via NBC 17) that he wanted to use his star power to help. "With a show like Desperate Housewives, one of the benefits is you get to turn it into charity things. We've been doing it all along. But now, this one is staring us in the face because it's so immediate."
There is also a personal connection for Denton. "My whole family is from the south. They're in Tennessee so all they got was a lot of heavy rain and floods, but everybody in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, we sent out some emails personally to see if there was anything we could do charity-wise."
Many other celebrities are also getting involved. New York's WNBC will host a live one-hour fund drive and stars involved include Matt Damon, Robert DeNiro, Angelina Jolie, William Hurt and Ellen DeGeneres.
