By Antony April 1, 2007 - 5:52 PMGameloft, the creators of the first Desperate Housewives mobile game, recently discussed the development of the game and revealed that Clue (known as Cluedo in some countries) inspired the premise for the game. But what they weren't expecting to hear was that Clue is also popular among the show's writers, and helps shape the show's stories.
"Our creative team went to LA to meet the ABC crew and they arrived throwing around the idea of designing the game in a Clue-like style," Julien Fournials, VP of Production for Gameloft told IGN. "The ABC team admitted that they were big fans of Clue and often referred to the board game when creating the plots and 'clue collections' for the show. So the idea was adopted at the very beginning of the process."
After the initial premise was agreed, Gameloft kept in close contact with the show. "From that point on, we coordinated directly with one of the staff writers of the show," said Fournials. "We had frequent contact and brainstorming sessions with the writer throughout the development of the game. It was a creative exchange of ideas between him, ABC and Gameloft. We developed the structure of the game and the writer storyboarded it."
He said that ABC were also keen to see accuracy within the game. "Creatively, ABC was very supportive when we mentioned wanting to recreate the Desperate Housewives universe in detail. For example, they gave us detailed photos of the houses on Wisteria Lane. In Gabrielle's house, we were able to reproduce Madon's portrait, the four Warhol-style portraits of Gaby that are in the stairs as well as the big candlelights."
Fournials also revealed that a Housewives' racy nature did land them in a spot of bother with one telephone company. "There was only one incident where a carrier asked us to amend a sentence where Susan referenced Edie and said, 'Did I call Edie a slut? Well, that's overstating it. Edie's not a slut. She is just popular with indiscriminate men.' I personally thought this was funny, but the carrier did not think so." Discuss this news item at Talk Desperate!
