Online reviewers have weighed in on the return of Desperate Housewives to ABC.

Here's what they had to say about "The Ladies Who Lunch":

  • In his cleverly titled "Sex, Lice, and Videotape" review for EW.com, Michael Slezak said that it was Bree who stole the show for him:

"Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction has [nothing] on Bree Van De Kamp. Bree's deliciously warped sense of right and wrong—coupled with a ferocious need to protect her family's good name—led to the two best moments in a truly classic episode. Indeed, while I howled when Bree (wearing a stylish orchid trench with a coordinated scarf) took back the muffins she was offering as a bribe to jailed local prostitute Maisy Gibbons, I'd give the slight edge to Bree's hilarious emasculation of Rex over dinner at the country club."

You can read the rest of the review over at EW.com, where Slezak also commends the use of supporting characters.

  • Angel Cohn writing for TV Guide Online said he liked seeing more of Edie in this episode. "I was really grateful that the outspoken, tartily dressed troublemaker, who gets shoved aside far too often, got a chance to shine," wrote Cohn. "Ever since her only frenemy Mrs. Huber was offed, Edie has had to learn what real friends are for the hard way. Tonight, after snidely remarking, 'What if you want to be supportive, but you just can't stand listening to other people bitch?', she got a chance to put her new skills to the test by making out with creepy Paul Young in order to help Susan sneak out of his house undetected." You can read the full review here.
Some sites have also written recaps of the episode.
  • There is an extensive recap of the episode available at InsidePulse.com. In 'The Final Word', writer John Duran does give some brief opinions on the episode. In particular he complimented the writers for using Edie as "a representative for people who are just jumping on the DH bandwagon or have forgotten what has happened, by basically recapping what has happened in the first part of the season before the hiatus."

  • There is also a brief summary at Television Without Pity, where visitors have so far rated the episode B+ in a poll. A more detailed recap is due to be posted at a later date.

  • Meahwhile, TV Tome has posted a review of February episode "Love Is In The Air". Rating it 9/10, shawnlunn2002 wrote: "I don't think I've enjoyed a Valentine's episode of any other show until I saw this one. "Love Is In The Air" had the right temperament from start to finish." You can read the full review here at TV Tome.

  • Finally, to tide you over to the next new episode, there is a new episode of Desperate Houseflies online.
