Desperate Housewives Questions

"So what's this show all about?"

Desperate Housewives revolves around four women who each live in a perfect house on Wisteria Lane, somewhere in American suburbia. They're Susan Mayer, a single mom who's looking to find love again; Lynette Scavo, a former career woman who is now discovering that raising four kids - including two hyper-active twins - can be more challenging than even the most cut-throat business; Bree van de Kamp, the Martha Stewart devotee whose quest to make her life for her family as perfect as possible is driving her husband and children mad; and Gabrielle Solis, the ex-model whose husband has given her everything she wanted except for his affection, and who's now trying to find intimacy with her gardener.

There used to be a fifth housewife, Mary Alice Young, but she shot herself during the Pilot, leaving her friends to wonder what could have motivated her to leave her husband, son, and seemingly perfect life behind. But Mary Alice is not completely gone - from her elevated vantage point, she sees and comments on everything her friends are up to, including their quest to uncover the secrets behind Mary Alice's death, but also their dealings with the Desperate Husbands - and other men! - of Wisteria Lane.

"What's the great mystery the housewives are trying to uncover?"

After Mary Alice killed herself, her friends found a note in her belongings reading "I know what you did. It makes me sick. I'm going to tell." It's since been revealed that this note was written by Mrs. Huber, who was trying to blackmail Mary Alice - but she's since been killed by Mary Alice's husband, making him even more suspicious than he already was. The Housewives are trying to figure out what was going on with their friend that caused her to commit suicide - but they're often sidetracked by complications in their own personal lives.

"Great show! However, I've got a suggestion on how to make it even better."

We love Desperate Housewives, too - that's why we set up this fan site for the show! However, that's all we are: a fan site, with no official connections to anyone working on the show. If you want to provide feedback on the show itself, you should contact the ABC television network, who can be found online at ABC. But if you want to comment on the show or have ideas on how you think the show's storylines should develop, why not also post your thoughts at our discussion forum, Talk Desperate? That way, other fans will be able to read and comment on it as well.

"So how can I get in touch with the cast and crew of Desperate Housewives?"

You can find contact info for each cast & crew member in the Get Desperate! People Guide.

"When is the show out on DVD?"

The Desperate Housewives first-season box set can now be ordered from Amazon.com.

"Where is Desperate Housewives filmed?"

Desperate Housewives, like most television shows, is filmed in Los Angeles, California. The exterior scenes on Wisteria Lane are all filmed on the backlot of the Universal Studios complex in Universal City, while the interiors of the houses have been recreated inside a studio.

"Why are there so many weeks without new episodes?"

While there are 52 weeks in the year, the average season of an American television show consists of only about 23 episodes - producing any more would put too much of a strain on the cast and crew. In the summer, when many people aren't watching television anyway, networks usually program only reruns and the occasional cheaply produced summer series. But that still leaves nine months between September and May, and only about five months worth of episodes to fill that time with. As television network don't like to show repeat episodes during the all-important "sweeps periods" in November, February and May, when television ratings for the rest of the year are determined, that means that in the remaining months, about half the episodes shown will be repeats - or one-off specials of other shows.

"Wasn't Teri Hatcher in another TV show before Desperate Housewives?"

Yes, she was Lois Lane in the long-running TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

"And what about Felicity Huffman?"

You're probably thinking of Sports Night, the series that first earned her a Golden Globe nomination.

"And...?"

Let us stop you here! If you want to find out about the previous projects of any of the Desperate Housewives actors and actresses, why not check out our People Guide? You'll be able to find all that information and more over there!

Get Desperate! Questions

"Who maintains this site?"

You can find out the names and email addresses of all the Get Desperate! editors on our contact page.

"Where do you find your news?"

Most of the news comes from a list of sites we visit every day. The rest of the news is submitted by Get Desperate! readers.

"Why didn't you report on that news item I sent you?"

There are a number of reasons which could explain this, including:

"Can you add a link to my site?"

If you've got a Desperate Housewives fan site, please let us know so we can add it to our list of links. If you have a fan site dealing with a specific cast or crew member, we may also add your site to the People Guide. In addition, we will link to your site if you publish something we consider newsworthy. Please note that emailing us is not a guarantee your site will be included on our links page.

"Can I add a link to your site?"

Yes, we'd be very pleased if you linked to GetDesperate! While we do not have any banners available, we do offer several link options that allow you to link to us and provide up-to-the-minute Desperate Housewives news and episode guide info on your own page at the same time. You can find more information about this at our syndication page.

"Do you know where I can download Desperate Housewives episodes?"

No, we don't, and even if we did, we wouldn't be able to, as downloading full episodes from the internet is highly illegal, and ABC wouldn't exactly be too happy with us.
